Various Fires in Publishing
At Witte de With, Center for Contemporary Art
15th September – 16th September 2012
Organized by Printroom and Witte de With, Center for Contemporary Art, Various Fires in Publishing will offer a mix of DIY printing, hands-on activities and critical debate on different forms of self-publishing.
Next to seeing Printroom’s risographs in action, I’m especially looking forward to my discussion with AND (aka: Eva Weinmayr and Lynn Harris), which attempts to grapple with self-publishing’s at times uncomfortable reliance on monetized media channels, such as Facebook, to promote and distribute their books. Our conversation will be followed by discussions with Lemon/Melon, Fucking Good Art and Delphine Bedel. All are equally and actively engaged in the challenges and pleasures of self-publishing.
Weinmayr and Harris have entitled their discussion: “Walking away from Facebook?”
<snip from AND‘s own website>
In conversation with Renée Turner, Director of the Piet Zwart Institute, AND will discuss how useful Facebook is for us today for distributing our ideas and building our audiences. We’ll look behind Facebook’s public (inter) face to discuss the limitations and opt out clauses that aren’t so evident. We’ll also discuss alternatives to this monopolizing social network, while deciding whether or not to end it there and then and publically remove ourselves from Facebook on stage.
Please come and join us for what looks like an interesting conversation and tw0-days of risographic fun!
