Monument to the Now was a workshop held at Konstfack which explored how the individual situates her or himself in the moment and researched notions of immediacy, memory, public/private space and archiving. Participants worked from a variety of starting points.
Some chose to monumentalize the private, meaning relations between friends, experiences of their studies and favorite places hidden here or there.
While some attempted to address more public concerns such as fear, contested histories, media glut and cultural conflicts.
Others tried to say something about the endless ephemera that occupies the now, those marginal things that go unnoticed, because they happen in an instant as you’re are passing by.
